Our Concept.
Who are you, or your team/organisation? Provide a brief biography of yourself, organisation and creative practice/background.
We are a talented, multidisciplinary team of complementary abilities with diverse perspectives, backgrounds and life experiences. We are unified by our passion for creativity across music, performance, photography, motion graphics, online spaces, fashion design and most importantly, story telling. Each member of our team has numerous years of experience working both internationally and amongst our local communities in a professional creative capacity. We have a passion for emerging technology and how it is better able to captivate the human emotions and senses. Additionally, we pride ourselves on optimal creative execution, kept within budget and with respect to timelines.
What is your idea? Provide a short summary of your idea for an experience at State Library Victoria.
We will create an immersive, site specific educational & art experience. Throughout our careers we have observed what inspires a passion for learning most, is a novel, encompassing experience which engages our many senses. Through the use of colour configurable lighting (RGB), high resolution display technology and discreet high fidelity speakers, we will craft a versatile space, adapted to captivate a transient audience. Designing the space to be easily configurable ensures each exhibition within a unique and relevant context with which to be showcased. Furthermore, the ever shifting aesthetic of the space will inspire and entice returning visitors. Thematically there are no limits, our team can craft everything from a guide to local Victorian flowers, the nightlife of 1980s Melbourne to architectural concepts redeveloping the Docklands precinct or profiles on the many volunteers who give their time to help our community. Visitors of this space will leave feeling both inspired and informed.
Why is your idea special or unique and why should we be excited by it?
This project is unique as it will provide a regularly recurring and financially sustainable source of inspiration, excitement and insight for our local community. With our team’s combined decades of professional experience, this project will be executed to perfection — it will be a program highlight for our wonderful State Library Victoria, providing a mixed media experience to captivate regular visitors and draw attention from new and younger audiences!
Who is the audience for your idea, and what do you want them to experience?
Each team member has professional careers working within youth culture & lifestyle, so our target demographic is 16 to 30. That being said, this project will be inclusive, garner the interest of and be accessible to all members within our local community, irrespective of background and life experience. Maximal enjoyment will be gained by those with a passion for creativity and learning. Using the joy of education and engaging use of technology we see this project as an opportunity to draw attention and increase library footfall from the aforementioned new and younger audiences.
If your proposed concept was delivered, what would success look like and how might it become a sustainable ongoing experience / business model?
Ensuring the project is financially sustainable is a key priority, this experience will be a win-win for all involved, a true addition to our city and will not burden any existing budgets. The financial cost of recurring exhibition content, maintenance & support will be provided by sponsors who have designated displays at all entrances to the project space. These displays will feature unobtrusive, motion based infographics to spotlight the sponsor logo(s) and act as a versatile platform to communicate any brand messaging they wish to display. Success would take the form of a long-lasting partnership between our creative team & State Library Victoria. Ultimately, we see this project on a longer timescale, not only being a highlight for the library, but also added to the list of ‘must see’ experiences for everyone visiting Melbourne.
If your application is successful, how will you use the funds to develop, research and scope your idea in July and August? Please provide a short outline of the development stages and main tasks.
The first step is to define the space within which the project shall exist. Ideally, we would love to reinvigorate a less-used space within the library — a room or even a hallway. The modular elements comprising this experience (lighting, displays & speakers) are highly adaptable. Once the location is finalised, technical planning can begin — which display technology, lighting and audio hardware are most suited to the designated location. In conjunction with this we will begin to plan our first two exhibitions, each utilising the space in different ways with the aim to explore the limits of our plans so that we may refine them further. Once finalised, we will tender quotes for installation and purchase of the hardware required to deliver the experience. At all stages we will liaise with State Library Victoria to ensure everyone is informed, timelines are met and excitement is able to flourish.
